  1. Train smart .  Put in preseason work to develop strength, core stability, flexibility, and proper running mechanics.
  2. Develop a solid high jump approach that is measured out.
  3. Run the approach, know the approach.
  4. Make sure that the person you are working with understands the high jump approach.  Bad habits are hard to reverse.
  5. Enjoy the event and have fun.
